Introduction #
The deal-to-project mapping defines how information from a sales deal is transferred to a project during conversion. When a deal is won and needs to be executed as a project, Kafinea can automatically create a project pre-populated with the deal’s data. The configuration is accessible via Settings > Data Mapping > Deal to Project.
1. Principle of conversion #
When a record is created record case, the "Convert to Project" action creates a new record in the Projects module by populating it with the information defined in the mapping.
The mapping specifies, for each field in the case, which field in the project the value will be copied to.
2. Configure the mapping #
On the configuration page, you can see the mapping between the fields in the Business module and the fields in the Projects module:
| Field: Case | → Project Field |
|---|---|
| Case Name | Project Name |
| Customer Account | Customer Account |
| Expected closing date | Start date |
| Amount | Budget |
| Description | Description |
You can modify these mappings to suit your business process.
Good to know: Only compatible fields (same data type) can be mapped to each other. For example, a date field can only be mapped to another date field.
3. Frequently Asked Questions #
Does conversion delete the case?
No, the case is retained. A link to the created project is added to the record to maintain traceability between the sales opportunity and its execution.
Can I convert a deal into a project at any stage?
Yes, technically, conversion is possible regardless of the deal’s status. In practice, however, it is recommended to convert only deals that have been won or are in the execution phase.
Are project tasks created automatically?
No, only the project is created during conversion. Tasks, milestones, and team members must be added manually or via a project template.
