1. Create a third-party bank account #
You can create a third-party bank account in two ways:
- From the module list: Finance > Third-party bank accounts
- From a customer or supplier record: Bank accounts tab, Add button
Information to enter:
- Bank account of: the customer or supplier who holds the account (required)
- Name: a label to identify the account
- IBAN: the account’s IBAN number
- BIC: the bank’s BIC/SWIFT code
- Account holder: the holder’s name as it appears on the bank account
- Default bank account: tick this option to use this account by default for automatic direct debits
Accounting:
- Accounting account number: the chart of accounts account associated with this third party
Good to know: The same customer or supplier can have several bank accounts recorded. The account marked “default” will be automatically selected when creating a SEPA direct debit.

For accounts connected via a banking API, Kafinea can display:
- Balance: the account’s current balance
- Upcoming: pending transactions
- Last update: the date of the last synchronisation
3. Frequently asked questions #
What is the difference between a bank account and a third-party bank account?
The Bank accounts module manages your own company’s accounts. The Third-party bank accounts module manages your customers’ and suppliers’ accounts.
Is the third-party bank account required to create a direct debit?
Yes, a SEPA mandate requires a third-party bank account with a valid IBAN. Without this information, the direct debit cannot be generated.
