Introduction #
Stock movements track every inbound and outbound movement of goods in Kafinea. They are generated automatically when logistics documents are validated (goods receipts, delivery notes, transfer requests). The module is accessible via Stock management > Stock movements.
Important: Stock movements are read-only records. They cannot be created, edited, or deleted manually. They faithfully reflect the logistics operations carried out in Kafinea.
1. Understanding a stock movement #
Each stock movement records the following information:
| Information | Description |
|---|---|
| Product | The item concerned by the movement |
| Quantity | The number of units moved (positive = inbound, negative = outbound) |
| Location | The storage location concerned |
| Date | The movement date |
| Document | The document that originated the movement (goods receipt, delivery note, etc.) |
| Unit price / Total price | The unit and total value of the movement |
| Product lot | The manufacturing lot, if applicable |
2. How movements are generated #
Stock movements are created automatically in pairs (double-entry) when the following documents are validated:
| Document | Movement generated |
|---|---|
| Goods receipt | Transfer from the “Suppliers” location to the internal location of the receiving site |
| Delivery note | Transfer from the internal location to the “Customers” location |
| Transfer request | Transfer from one internal location to another location |
This double-entry system ensures that each movement has an origin and a destination, maintaining a permanent stock balance.
Good to know: Each movement has a Pair field that links it to its mirror movement. This makes it easy to find both sides of the same transfer.
3. Movement valuation #
Each movement records the unit price and total price of the items moved. This information feeds into the calculation of stock valuation and is expressed in the currency of the source document as well as the company’s default currency.
4. Viewing movements #
You can view stock movements in several ways:
- From the global list: Stock management > Stock movements for an overview
- From a storage location: the Stock movements tab to view the history of a specific location
- From a document (goods receipt, delivery note): to view the movements generated by that document
5. Frequently asked questions #
Can I correct an incorrect stock movement?
No, movements cannot be edited. To correct an error, you must cancel or edit the source document (goods receipt, delivery note), which will regenerate the corresponding movements.
How do I make an inventory adjustment?
Use a location of type “Stock adjustments” as the origin or destination of a transfer to reconcile discrepancies found during a physical inventory count.
Do movements affect accounting?
Stock movements feed into stock valuation, which can be used in financial statements. The link with accounting depends on your instance configuration.
