Units of measurement

📍 Where can I find this module?
Main menu > Catalog

Introduction #

Units of measure allow you to define the units in which your products and services are quantified: piece, kilogram, liter, meter, hour, etc. They are used in the detail lines of sales documents and in inventory management. The module is accessible via Catalog > Units of Measure.

1. Create a unit of measurement #

Click on Add a unit from the module list.

Information to provide:

  • Name: the full name of the unit (required), e.g., “kilogram,” “hour,” “linear meter”
  • Abbreviation: the short form of a unit, e.g., "kg," "h," "ml"

2. Usage #

Units of measurement are used in:

  • records : to define the sales unit and the inventory unit
  • records : to define the invoicing unit
  • Line items: in quotes, orders, invoices, and delivery notes

Good to know: Set your units of measurement before creating your products and services. This ensures that quantities are consistent across all your documents.

3. Frequently Asked Questions #

Can I edit a unit of measurement that has already been used?
You can edit the name and abbreviation. The change will apply wherever the unit is referenced.

How do I handle unit conversions?
Kafinea does not automatically handle unit conversions (e.g., kg to g). If you need multiple units for the same product, create the necessary units and manage the conversion manually.

Which units are created by default?
Kafinea comes with the most common units. You can add as many as you need depending on your business.
