Introduction #
The Shipping Methods module allows you to configure the various shipping options available for your orders: carrier, express delivery, in-store pickup, etc. It can be accessed via Inventory Management > Shipping Methods.
Each shipping method can be linked to a weight-based pricing schedule, allowing shipping costs to be calculated automatically.
1. Create a shipping method #
Click on Add a shipping method from the module list.
General information:
- Name: the name of the shipping method (e.g., "Colissimo," "Chronopost," "In-store pickup")
- Transportation company: the partner carrier
- Enabled: Allows you to enable or disable this delivery method
- Logo: the carrier's logo for visual identification
Performance:
- Estimated delivery time: the average delivery time for this shipping method
- Tracking URL: the link to the carrier's package tracking service
Cost:
- Minimum and Maximum Cost: the price range for this delivery method
2. Shipping rates #
Each shipping method can be associated with rates that determine the cost based on the shipment's weight. When you record shipping method, the Rate tab allows you to configure a pricing table.
Each rate includes:

| Minimum (kg) | The minimum weight for this level |
| Maximum (kg) | The maximum weight for this shelf |
| Base cost | The fixed cost for this tier |
| Cost per kilogram | Variable cost per kilogram |
The total shipping cost is calculated as follows: Base rate + (Weight × Cost per kg).
Good to know: When creating a logistics document (delivery note, transfer request), Kafinea can automatically calculate the total weight of the items and display the available rates via the Get Ratesbutton.
3. Frequently Asked Questions #
How can I offer my customers multiple shipping carriers?
Create a shipping method for each carrier, each with its own pricing structure. When shipping, you can choose the most suitable option.
Can I temporarily disable a shipping method?
Yes, uncheck the Enabled in the delivery record . It will no longer be offered in documents but will remain visible in the history.
How does package tracking work?
Enter thecarrier's tracking URL provided by the carrier in the shipping record . This URL may contain a parameter for the tracking number, allowing direct access to tracking from the shipping documents.
